PARINTINS
FOLCKORIC FESTIVAL / AMAZON
26th to 30th June, 2008
Imagine a remote city, in the middle of
the Amazon jungle, 400 kilometers down river
from Manaus and accessible only by boat
or airplane….
Imagine
that once a year, this town-that-time-forgot
becomes the focal point of an incredible
regional celebration, where visitors from
throughout the Amazon and indeed the world
come to participate in a remarkable spectacle
that defies description….
Then imagine dancing, street celebrations
and incredible pageantry in an Amazonian
setting, with thousands of bodies swaying
to the pulsating rhythms of “Boi Bumba”,
the exotic, compelling percussion beat of
the jungle. Part samba, part “jungle
hip-hop”….
This
all happens in Parintins, providing a rare
opportunity to live an adventure unlike
any you have ever imagined. Experience the
excitement of journeying and living on a
riverboat, the magic of the jungle and the
chance to fully participate in one of the
truly great folkloric events in South America.
By day, explore the city and river beaches;
by night, participate in the spectacle of
the two colorful troupes of characters (Garantido
and Caprichoso) that tell -- through dance,
music and celebration -- the history of
the Amazon folklore.
This
atmospheric festival takes place in the
'Bumbodromo' where you’ll see a fantastic
folklore spectacle created by Indians no
less impressive than the Carnival of Rio
de Janeiro. It is a life time privilege
to assist this Opera of the Jungle with
its costumes, beautifully dressed flag bearers
and decorated floats, all moving to the
different Indian rhythms. It is, simply,
in-cre-di-ble!
