Since he was a child Jaime showed artistic sensibility and passion for dance. But it was only in the 80’s, after moving from Recife to Rio de Janeiro that he went professional and made his mark on Brazil's dance scene with his innovative and exciting methodology of teaching the traditional, and now immensely popular Dança de Salão (think of it as a Brazilian version of Big Band Swing Dance).
In 1986, he created his own school, The Jaime Arôxa Dance Company which has now taught more than 17,000 students. In addition to teaching dance 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, Jaime Arôxa spends his free time creating choreographies – last year more than 50 works - for plays, movies, soap operas and shows. Furthermore he has his own dance company.
