The Anavilhanas Lodge is a very comfortable, well-run, attractive place to stay to experience the Amazon rain forest and river (Rio Negro). The lodge provides 3 good buffet meals daily, along with 2 liters of water per room. They handled our son's food allergy well and he had no problems there. The lodge provides two to three excursions daily, from 2.5-3 hours each. Most start in boats and sometimes you stay in the boat the whole time and other times you hike through the rain forest. All the excursions were great though the bow and arrow shooting was not as interesting. Our family would have preferred more "adventure" including longer hikes, more canoeing farther afield, trips to more remote areas. The activities were perfect for families with younger children, people with less stamina, or who don't want to exercise much, and those who primarily want to relax in a very pleasant lodge in the beautiful rain forest. The pool was great, as was the common lounge and bar area. We would have liked guides with more knowledge of the birds, as my husband is a birder, but the guides were good otherwise. We returned yesterday from the trip you coordinated to the Amazon, Pantanal, Chapada and Ilha Grande. Thank you for the excellent coordination of all aspects of the trip. Each time we arrived in a place there was always a driver or guide waiting and everyone was extremely helpful. The one time we had a problem with an airline connection because the flight was cancelled, we were easily able to reach the emergency contact you gave us and to arrange for the driver to meet us at a different place. The local tour operators you work with are really on top of things. The only thing that didn't go as planned was the weather when we got to Ilha Grande. Unfortunately, it rained the whole time we were there so the beach part of our trip didn't involve that much beach time. (Can't hold you responsible for the weather...) Again, thanks for a job well done. Obrigada -- Janet D and Jim L, September 2010
